What ScamHawk can and can’t do
ScamHawk helps you notice warning signs and choose a safer next step. No warning found does not mean a request is safe.
Messages
The website sends the text you choose to ScamHawk’s analysis server after security verification, per-scan consent and tapping Check. Scores indicate warning signals, not a probability or a verified fraud verdict. Scams can be missed and legitimate messages can be flagged. There is no offline website scan or saved scan history.
UPI IDs and QR images
The website checks format and payment direction locally. Supported browsers can decode a QR image without uploading it; ordinary photo text OCR is not available on the website. A QR may request a payment even if someone calls it a refund. ScamHawk cannot verify the account owner, bank balance, actual receipt of money or a live UPI fraud history. Check the beneficiary and your transaction history in your own bank or UPI app.
Phone numbers and calls
The phone tool copies your number only when you choose the lookup, then opens I4C’s official suspect repository. You paste the number and complete its CAPTCHA yourself. ScamHawk does not query I4C on your behalf. A match is a complaint-based lead, not a legal finding; no match does not prove safety. Numbers can be spoofed or reassigned.
The website cannot block or hang up calls. The Android development app has user-controlled call-safety tools and a chosen-number block list where supported. It does not identify every spam call, listen to live calls or analyse live video.
Android early access
The downloadable APK is a debug-signed development build, not a production or Google Play release. It requires compatible 64-bit hardware. Message and reviewed QR text scans need configured server access, internet and explicit consent. Google ML Kit reads images on the device after its disclosure step; SDK diagnostics can communicate separately. Always review recovered text before sending it for analysis.
Trusted-contact tools help you call or prepare SMS/WhatsApp messages; delivery and a response are not guaranteed. No inbox reading or notification monitoring is added.
Safety guidance and optional AI
The Android safety guide offers offline instructions. Cloud AI and family-account features are not generally available on the public production service. A separately configured development assistant may send a question to OpenAI only with separate consent. A website message scan does not invoke that assistant. Reporting and support
For financial cyber fraud, contact your bank promptly, call 1930 and use cybercrime.gov.in. These official services are independent of ScamHawk. Reporting does not guarantee recovery. Government reporting guidance.
ScamHawk does not currently collect crowdsourced message reports through the checker. Checking a message does not consent to dataset collection. Support is not an emergency response service.
